The New England Highway Bikeway project aims to establish a safe and accessible active transport corridor between Highfields and Toowoomba. The project is being delivered in three stages:
Stage 1: Completed in December 2020, this stage involved constructing a 3-meter-wide, two-lane path from Mitchell Road to Toowoomba Christian College at Highfields.
Stage 2: Commenced in December 2024, this stage focuses on building a safe, convenient path for people of all ages and abilities between Toowoomba Christian College and Hi Winds Road at Blue Mountain Heights.
Stage 3: Currently in the planning phase, this stage aims to connect the path from Hi Winds Road to the existing path at Harlaxton, with completion expected in June 2025. However, construction funding for this stage has not yet been secured.
The project is focused on extending the Highfields to Toowoomba Cycleway network, enhancing regional connectivity for cyclists, and supporting active transport initiatives across Toowoomba Regional Council.
Civil Project Partners prepared detailed construction programs, cost estimates, and risk analysis to ensure seamless project delivery planning.
