Beames Brook Bridge Replacement

CPP were engaged by SMEC to investigate the detailed design cost estimate of a bridge replacement in remote Queensland. The bridge was unique in that all the bridge elements were precast, manufactured in Townsville and transported to site.

Scope

Replacement of the existing single lane bridge with a two lane concrete bridge.

  • Side track construction to facilitate existing bridge removal and new bridge construction
  • Precast bridge elements supplied from Townsville to site and lifted into place by a crane. The largest precast element being the abutments weighing 46 tonne each.

Service Provided

CPP were engaged by SMEC to provide a risk adjusted cost estimate at detailed design stage. The project is located in a remote part of Queensland 27km south of Burketown, in the Gulf of Carpentaria region and required careful consideration of the logistical challenges in developing the cost and construction methodology.
