We’re big fans of multi-modal transport and it’s therefore great to see the changes coming to Brisbane’s transport network that will add new routes, increase frequency and build further network capacity. Here are the key changes and what they mean for passengers.
🚌 Bus Network Transformation
New Route Structure & Metro Addition
A trunk-and-feeder system will be introduced, where many suburban routes feed into high-frequency Metro lines. Passengers may need to transfer mid-journey, but connecting services will depart from the same or nearby platforms
Launch of Brisbane Metro M1, linking Eight Mile Plains to Roma Street with 5minute weekday frequencies and 24hour service on weekends
Scope and Scale of Changes
Approximately 70–75% of bus services will be renumbered, rerouted, merged or split
Six entirely new routes will be introduced; four peak-only routes will now run all day
Efficiency Gains & Disruptions
Around 2/3 of the network sees major changes, designed to simplify routes, increase frequency, and reduce congestion, especially in the CBD
City Council projects an extra 160,000 bus trips per year, with 85% of journeys faster or equal, though 15% may take longer, particularly in outer suburbs
41 bus stops will be removed (22 suburban, 19 within the CBD), while 27 new stops are being added in growth areas
Local Stop Updates & CBD Changes
Stop relocations around Fortitude Valley, CBD, Teneriffe, Cultural Centre/South Brisbane, and more
Travellers across Logan and Redlands will also see new timetables, stop changes, and renamed routes to align with Brisbane’s network
Customer Support & Adaptation
Timetables available from 2 June in TransLink and DTMR journey planners
Pop-up information sessions held across suburbs in June to help users adjust
🚇 Rail & Cross River Rail Work
From 30 June – 4 July, Airtrain services between Roma Street and Banoon will be affected during Cross River Rail works; expect altered schedules to the Gold Coast
King George Square, Queen St, Roma St stations will close on six consecutive weekends (from 21 June to late July) for tunnel commissioning, reopening in September
Adelaide Street tunnel works will continue, enabling a shift to 3minute Metro services
